About Shamanthi

AUPE member for 24 years. Steward since 2008. Former Local Chair (7 years). Front‑line advocate who has helped members navigate bullying, unsafe workloads, and complex policy grievances. Led rallies, spoke truth to power, and partnered with allies—including Friends of Medicare and Public Interest Alberta—to defend public services.

Honours include the Heather Jacobs Award (2006) and the Dove Award (2022). But the real reward is simple: safer workplaces, respected members, and wins that last.

Receipts, Not Promises

  • Co‑chaired ADM workload strategy meetings; pushed concrete fixes for burnout.
  • Filed policy grievances to enforce the collective agreement—then saw them through.
  • Helped members secure WCB stress claims and fair accommodations.
  • Supported province‑wide mobilizations and a 90.1% strike‑vote mandate.
